Avinash Gowariker Recalls His Favourite Film Poster
When asked about his favourite photoshoots, Avinash Gowariker said, “There are so many films and posters I’ve loved working on. One of my absolute favourites is the Jodhaa Akbar poster—it was so beautiful, so sublime. Then there’s Gangubai, and Heeramandi, just recently I shot with Sanjay Leela Bhansali again. There have been so many films, each special in its own way.”
Avinash opens up on shooting Chennai Express’ poster with Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, “The Chennai Express shoot, for instance, was absolutely fantastic—Deepika and Shah Rukh Khan on a bike, surrounded by all those goons, and I was up on a crane shooting the whole thing. It was absolute fun, and the film itself was pure magic. Even today, whenever I see a Chennai Express poster, it brings a smile to my face. The Housefull shoots have always been madness, total fun.“
Concluding about his favourite photoshoots, he said, “But let me clarify—this doesn’t necessarily mean the film itself is always my favourite; sometimes it’s just the experience of the shoot. It can be something very simple, or sometimes it’s a lot more. Recently, I shot a short film that was just 20 minutes long, but it had so much raw emotion—it was powerful. Honestly, I enjoy shooting all films. And every director brings their own style. Sanjay Leela Bhansali, for instance, has such a distinct flavour. Everyone has their own way of working, and that keeps it exciting for me.”
