In the video, Fadnavis is seen engaging in a conversation with writer-producer Namit Malhotra, a key figure behind the project through Prime Focus Studios. “I was amazed to see the quality of Ramayana which was being created,” Fadnavis remarked. He emphasized the film’s potential to blend India’s ancient storytelling traditions with cutting-edge technology, stating, “Our art, drama, and music are very old, and we only wanted to couple it up with the latest technology, and I think that’s what you are doing.”

Ramayana, one of the most ambitious projects in Indian cinema, boasts a stellar cast, with Ranbir Kapoor portraying Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Raavan, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman. The film, backed by a reported budget of Rs. 835 crores for its first part, aims to deliver a visually spectacular retelling of the Hindu epic. The production has garnered attention for its meticulous approach, with 600 days dedicated to post-production to ensure unparalleled visuals.

The Chief Minister’s praise comes at a time when Ramayana is generating significant buzz. Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also viewed a glimpse of the film and expressed amazement at its visual quality, further elevating its profile. However, the project has faced challenges, including concerns about audience fatigue with Ramayana-based films following the critical and commercial underperformance of movies like Adipurush and Singham Again. Industry analysts suggest that Tiwari’s adaptation must resonate deeply with audiences to overcome this hurdle.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, known for hits like Dangal, Ramayana is envisioned as a global spectacle. Producer Namit Malhotra, whose credits include Hollywood blockbusters like Dune and Inception, has stated the film’s mission to present an authentic and culturally resonant adaptation. “More than a decade ago, I embarked on a noble quest to bring this epic that has ruled billions of hearts for over 5,000 years to the big screen,” Malhotra said in a statement.

The film’s first poster, unveiled in November 2024, confirmed its release timeline, with Ramayana: Part 1 slated for Diwali 2026 and Ramayana: Part 2 for Diwali 2027. Despite earlier leaks of set photos featuring Ranbir and Sai Pallavi, the makers have since tightened security.
