Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par To SKIP OTT Release, Follow YouTube Pay-Per-View Model - Report

Actor Aamir Khan is making a big-screen comeback with his new film Sitaare Zameen Par, which will release in cinemas on June 20. Reports say the film will not follow the usual OTT release format. Instead, Aamir plans to release it on YouTube using a pay-per-view model.

This means viewers will pay a one-time fee to watch the film, rather than subscribing to a platform like Netflix or Amazon Prime. The YouTube release is expected about eight weeks after the theatrical launch.

As per India Today sources, “Aamir doesn’t want to release his films directly on streaming after their theatrical run, as it discourages viewers from watching movies on the big screen. It is also a reason why there is no streaming logo on the poster of Sitaare Zameen Par.”

The source further added, “The decision involves multiple factors. Of course, there is a perception that non-spectacle films are better suited for OTT platforms, which has led many to skip them in theatres. Pay-per-view, however, creates a cinema-like urgency, as viewers would need to pay specifically for the film rather than accessing it freely through a subscription model. This consumer-centric approach benefits both viewers and producers, giving the latter more control over their content. Aamir wants to see how this plays out, so we shall know details in the coming weeks.”

Pay-per-view (PPV) is commonly used for events like sports and concerts. It allows people to watch only what they choose to pay for, giving them more control and flexibility.

Directed by RS Prasanna, Sitaare Zameen Par is a feel-good movie and a spiritual sequel to Aamir’s 2007 hit Taare Zameen Par. While the earlier film was emotional, Aamir says this one will be full of fun and laughter. Genelia D’Souza stars alongside him.

The first poster, revealed earlier this week, features Aamir with 10 fresh faces, suggesting an energetic and heartwarming story. Aamir Khan Productions is launching these debutants in the film. On the work front, Aamir will also appear in a cameo role in Rajinikanth’s film Coolie, which is expected to release in August 2025.
