‘Am I Getting A New Mumma?..’ Imran Khan’s Ex-Wife, Avantika On Daughter’s Reaction To Their Divorce
Imran Khan got married to his long-time girlfriend, Avantika Malik, back in 2011, and three years later, in 2014, when they welcomed their baby girl, Imara, into their lives. Well, it was during the pandemic when Imran Khan and Avantika decided that they would live separately, and following this, the couple was divorced. The duo shares a joint custody of their daughter, Imara. Well, in a recent interview, Avantika shared that her divorce was hard for her. She also revealed their daughter, Imara’s reaction to the divorce.
Avantika Malik recalls crying inconsolably the night she and Imran decided to part ways
Avantika Malik recently sat for an interview with Janice Sequiera, where she talked about the hard phase of her life when she was separated from Imran Khan. Talking about the same, she shared that it’s just two people growing apart, and it was not the worst thing. She also added that they first decided to live separately, and after the same, they would opt for divorce, but at the night it was decided, she was crying like someone must have died in her family. Avantika shared that she would think she could never survive without her ex-husband, and this came from ‘daddy issues’ mainly. She shared that her parents were divorced, and she had seen her mom wearing it with pride, thus, it didn’t come as an embarrassment for her, but it was really tough. To quote Avantika’s words:
“My parents are divorced, to begin with, so it wasn’t too difficult to address, or something that made me very uncomfortable. I’ve seen my mom wear it with pride her entire life. It’s not embarrassing to me.”

In the same interview, Avantika Malik revealed her daughter, Imara’s reaction to her and Imran’s separation. Avantika shared that Imara had a lot of questions, and she would ask if she would get a new mumma. Avantika revealed that she was reassuring her daughter that the little one would stick with her only. Avantika stated that she and Imran decided to spend an equal amount of time with their daughter. Avantika revealed that she and Imran have joint custody of their daughter, and she stays half of the week with her mom and the rest with her dad. In Avantika’s words:
“Initially, she had a lot of questions. She was like, ‘Does that mean I’m going to get a new mumma?’ I was like, ‘No, darling, you’re stuck with this one’… What Imran and I did well was that we were very consistent about her spending time with the both of us. We have joint custody. She spends half her week with me, half her week with him.”
Avantika Malik says she felt a lot of guilt for letting her family down
In the same interview, Avantika Malik shared that she would feel guilty for letting her family down after her divorce from Imran Khan. She shared that everyone saw her and Imran as a lovey-dovey couple, who were always together and happy, and the way their relationship ended. She shared that it was extremely tough for her to get out of that phase and carry the responsibility and disappointment.
Imran Khan revealed that his daughter has started opening up to him
Earlier, in an interview with Filmfare, Imran Khan shared that he has formed a close bond with his daughter, which he always wanted to do. He expressed his wish for his daughter to have a sense of comfort and security to him so that she could talk about anything and everything to her father. Imran also added that Imara has started opening up about her emotional parts to him, and it was a priceless moment for him.
