Patralekhaa On Bollywood Calling Her Rajkummar Rao’s Wife

When asked how she navigates fame and success between her and Rajkummar Rao, Patralekhaa said, “That’s a very good question. Somebody asked me this once—about having the same partner from the same fraternity, from the same line of work, like actors. I think it doesn’t work. It didn’t work for me. I can’t speak for everybody else, but I feel like you’re always seen through that lens: ‘Oh, she’s his girlfriend,’ or ‘She’s his wife.’ You know? Even now, after working so hard to break the ceiling and make a name for myself, whatever that may be, they still call me ‘Rajkummar’s wife.’ And I think that’s not cool. I have a name. I’m an individual. So I do feel like it’s a bit detrimental.”

She added, “Over the past many years, I’ve had to put on a very hard skin, if that’s the right way to put it. I had to shield myself and shield my thoughts from going haywire. I’ve had to tell myself, ‘Okay, this is what it is—now how do I navigate it?’ I needed to have that conversation with myself, I feel. But again, the perks are also plenty—I won’t lie.”

Patra, while revealing the perks of marrying Rajkummar, said, “Like when we can’t get a table at a restaurant—that’s where the perks kick in! So yes, the perks are infinite, by the way.”
